Chris has been reminiscing and we have posted 8 chapters so far and he's only got to Tom's first goal as a player! Here is a link to this latest one and the others are all in the News Items on the website. The Chairman Remembers Part 8If you haven't read them you've missed some good old stories

Great piece Chris, and what a great acquisition for the club he was !. Agile and fast you always thought something was on when he got anywhere near goal. Modest as well. I was working on a refurbishment at a Doctors Surgery in Southampton, a few years back, and Tony was there helping Paul Arnold and Peter Morrell with the decorating. A few other workers were ribbing him about his career, when Pete Morrell flagged up his goal scoring record and the fact that he had once appeared on the same pitch as Pele !. Silence.

Tony's record for Poole Town
Poole Town Funnell dropped into non-league football and signed for Southern League Premier Division club Poole Town in 1983.[1] In a long spell with the club, Funnell scored 127 goals in 308 games for the Dolphins.[1] He was recognised for his service with a testimonial versus former club Southampton in May 1991 and was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame in 2014.[2]

These reminiscences are well written, entertaining and very illuminating.
The Chairman Remembers pat 9 has to be the most fascinating so far and it goes a long way to explaining much of what was for me, and probably many other Poole Town 'exiles', a mystery during those years. I simply could not understand what on earth was happening to the club I'd supported and followed since boyhood.
I can't wait for part 10 to complete the sad tale of the Town's demise and any following chapters for the story of its subsequent phoenix-like rise. We already know much of the latter of course. COYD!
Thank again Chris.

I'll always remember walking under the main stand, pass the offices, with dear old Tom Rodgers & Jim Harrison Barker, probably about 90 mins b4 a game,& Mr Block greeting us with" oh here comes the Poole Town mafia!" I literally had to hold old Jim back!!

Good piece again, Chris (part 9). Cleared up a few grey areas as to how and why the club found itself in a few unfavourable positions. Hope when you've finished your reports you'll put it into print so youngsters growing up and those in positions of authority are not allowed to forget.

Fantastic article Chris (along with the others) Tony was one of the standout players I remember as a young Dolphins fan at the Stadium and I eagerly awaited each home game to go and get the programme to make sure he was playing!!.... In fact he was probably the main reason I became a lifelong fan along with watching a very young Tommy Killick starting out in his playing career......
