Dolphins already behind - a silly free-kick allows Chippenham to have a shot, with the ball nestling into the back of the net past Childs. 1-0 after 5 minutes

Poole still in this game - but neither side generating much from outside of set pieces. Can't say either side is control, but it's that old cliche - next goal will be crucial.
Despite having more bodies in the midfield, Poole still unable to control possession in the middle of the park. Lee still feeding off scraps but Dickson being given the ball, space and time on the right wing. Most likely source of a goal I reckon.

Utterly predictable result will we ever trouble the FA Cup again! Thx Benito for that refreshing cascade of icy cold water! it seems as if some )nearby)clubs have the financial resources that elude PTFC

Not quite correct David, from what I remember back to the Wessex days we have left the FA cup at more or less the same juncture... Of historical note we made the 1st round proper in 1983 but lost to Newport County!... The best FA cup run for PT being in 1926 when the Town reached the 3rd round proper losing 3-1:to Everton at Goodison Park!! Poole were in the then Southern League Eastern Division....

I meant we were in Wessex league and got to 4th qualifying round and also lost to Frome in a qualifying round. Just saying we were plying our trade 2 divisions lower and got that far. Great stats though Steve

I remember watching Poole play Newport IOW back in 1956-57 season in the F A Cup 4th Qualifying Round losing at home 0-3. It was reported that goalkeeper Chris Conway played the match with severe toothache. Poole won the Western League that season and was promoted to the Southern League.

Yes, you are quite right it was Newport County my mistake - that match incidentally was my first ever Poole Town game so I should have known better!

That Newport County side contained John Aldridge who went on to achieve big things for Liverpool and scored at a World Cup if I remember rightly.

The Everton match actually took place on Saturday 8th January 1927 at Goodison Park. Everton's goals I believe was yet another hatrick by the legend that is Dixie Dean. Also it wasn't PTFC that day, just PFC. It was the first of 4 seasons from 1926-27 to 1929-30, when the Town suffix was dropped. We went back to PTFC from 1930-31 & have remained so ever since.
