Apparently in this weeks Advertiser,Councillor Eades has applied to the Borough Council for a referendum on the future of the Rec. Apparently he says it would be local democracy in action, it would be across the whole Borough if approved by the Council. I thought we elected Councillors to make the decisions for the Borough, or is it the last throw of the dice for opponents of the proposal?

Absolutely correct! Just think of the cost of a properly conducted referendum and the precedent it would set. The ability of Councillors to do their job properly would be diluted as every contentious issue would be put to the electorate thereby by -passing the elected body. I happen to think we would such a vote but resist this at all costs.

Presumably, the full council would have to approve such a vote. Surely they would feel a little "sidelined" or even on the "subs bench" if such a vote was allowed. I really can't see councillors agreeing to this request. It demonstrates to me, how concerned the protesters are that the argument is not going their way. Talking to residents who actually live in the Branksome rec area, some friends and some acquaintances ( Not necessarily representative of any group, just ordinary folk). It seems the Lighthouse event has brought to the fore the facts and substance of the Poole Town FC proposal. And in the main it is being received more favourably than we were being lead to believe. A number of younger people, in particular, are quite excited with regard to the improved facilities on their doorstep.

I agree with you clive, we'd win a town-wide referendum but you and slepe are right, it would set a very dangerous precedent that would - in the end - be totally counter-productive!

We need to let the democratic process take place. Common sense and a lack of funds will ensure the councillors make the right decision. Who else is in the queue to "Un-wreck the Rec".

It was reported by the protesters at the Lighthouse that Everton had been refused planning and their new stadium was dead in the water........not so guys. BLUES DECISION DUE NEXT SEASON Everton want to leave Goodison. Everton may not know whether they have the go-ahead to build their proposed new stadium until the beginning of next season. The public inquiry into the plans to build a new ground in Kirkby in conjunction with Tesco finally ended on Friday after 36 days of evidence. But it has emerged that the inspector's report will not be presented to the Secretary of State until June, and a final decision is now not expected until the eve of next season. But Everton's new chief executive Robert Elstone believes the club will still be on course to move to a new ground for the start of the 2011-12 season, if they get the go-ahead. Everton had expected a decision by the spring, but Elstone said: "We are very happy with the way the inquiry went. "We answered some tough questions in impressive fashion and, in the course of doing that, were able to put right some misconceptions that had emerged. "Throughout this process we have been keen to stress there is an urgent need to move (from Goodison Park) and also a unique opportunity not just for Everton but also for the people of Kirkby. "On that basis, and with the news today it may well be June before the inspector can finalise the report, we have to be certain we can hit the ground running to achieve a 2011 start date for the completed stadium. "That means we will continue to push on with the project development so Everton can fulfil our side of the bargain as part of the partnership. "We will be discussing in more detail the timetable with our partners with a view to seeing if there is any way the decision can be accelerated. "But I am confident that the powers that be are aware of how important timing is to the overall project." Some of that is very familiar

Have written to the OCHE but don't think the letter was published. Spoke to somebody from Branksome today, she and her neighbours all support us, they think it is a must. :-)

Sterte-support from Branksome people is powerful stuff--could you persuade them to write and stress their local adress???This aspect is something I want to dwell on on Monday at our meeting-we do have support in Branksome and those who have local influence need to help us in drawing it out and putting it in the public domain If some locals could form a Branksome Residents Supporting PTFC Proposals Group-I reckon that would be a clincher-we would then have a 3rd voice before the council What do you think???

Will try to Chris, but there is a reluctance for some reason to go "public". The ones I have spoken to feel intimidated by the protesters assumption that everyone feels the same as they do. Hope that makes sense.........

Yesterday's Advertiser had an article that says the Council have turned down the referendum. It seems Cllr Eades wanted one just for his ward, not for the whole Borough. Democracy in action.
