This was a good display by a team that were mostly U16s and they were playing against bigger and older opponents (two looked well over 20). Sadly at least one of the team works on Saturday and could not get the time off. One more trophy to go for this season, as Adie says, and next season they will be the big boys.

I know for a fact that four of the lads are 16 and the rest are seventeen so get your facts right

Having looked on the FA website, to see the age qualification for the FA Youth Cup. It states it is a competition for players aged 15-18 on 31st August 2017. I assume other Under 18 competitions use a similar system. So it is quite possible for a player to be 19 if they were 18 on the 31/08/2017 & had a birthday since then. I also would think that under16 & other types of age related football use a similar player qualification method.

Yes you are correct. When England won a number of World and European titles last summer if you remember the ages /birth dates were very much mixed and with that in mind physical attributes can be different but still in the laws of the game.

I know when I was younger most boys wanted to play against slightly older lads, who were also a bit stronger. It meant if you beat them it was due to skill alone. It also toughened you up, so you got stronger quicker.

What a total exaggeration ! I was also at the game and none of the Poole Town squad were U16 more like U17 going on U18. Why do we have to try and justify that we were just beaten by a better team - some people are so sad !! Oh and by the way JohnA The Gary Else Cup in the U18 South West Counties Youth League is strictly U18 so there were definitely not any 20 year old's playing. All but 4 of our squad will be eligible for next year's U18 Competitions. Fact I got it from the management. Some of the squad were eligible for U16s this season. As you did not read my post properly I will repeat what I said "two looked well over 20". It is my opinion. It is just as valid as yours. I realise that looks do not indicate age, people mature and age at different rates. Otherwise I would not still have my youthful good looks (that is a joke by the way. At no point did I say that bath were not the better team. They were Bath deserved their victory on the day. Of course you have me at a disadvantage. I don't hide who I am even though I am also a Poole Town Senior.

Not sure why you are arguing, to be fair to get to a cup final at any age is great for the lads or girls. At u18s its a two year stint for the boys so you will get 16 17 18 yr olds playing and its the same as a school year meaning sept 1st to aug 31st so no 19 yr old will be playing.
