Just reading that Wolverhampton and Birmingham teams are in big trouble and the Pirates next fixture is now June29.I don't want to see The Pirates go down but its not looking good is it??

One has to admire the efforts of the promoters to improve the tracks (if not the infrastructure) and the dedication of the fans. Also some tweaking of the rules and scoring in recent years has had a positive effect. But however exciting four closely packed riders racing without brakes on a tight circuit might appear to be, the skills are such that there is rarely a serious/thrilling contest after the first bend of the first lap. The home team nearly always wins and, regrettably, spills are often the only excitement (fortunately, rarely serious but sometimes devastating!)
The 'Development' leagues and youth tournaments are another sign of the organisers commitment and attempts to get younger fans and riders involved but a top league with only six clubs (at present) and a so-called Championship of a dozen (or less) doesn't look good.
On top of all this, the added financial difficulties, organisational requirements imposed by the 'pandemic' and an aging fan base makes the future look bleak.
Good luck to the Pirates and all the other clubs. I can still remember cheering on the Pirates with my mum and my 'uncle' Bert and my bag of pear drops (not many left at the end if it was too one-sided) more decades ago than I care/dare to recall!
I believe that British Speedway will be 93 years old this year. Will it celebrate something in 2028?
