An interesting stat that doesn't read well for the new manager and his team based on games played in 2023.
We've lost 9 (competitive) games in this calendar year, Tommy lost only 4 out of 30, Tubbs has already lost more than Tommy did, losing 5 of 11.
The stats based only on League form are also slightly worse again for the new management team, as those 11 games played include 3 cup wins, 2 of those against lower league opposition.
I'm not entirely sure that I concur with other posts I've seen that we're relegation fodder, but the early signs (we often hear managers say "judge me after 10 games") looking at those numbers are not great.

I have not been to a game recently due to illness but in my opinion, Will was often doing the work of two covering for others (no names, no pack drill). Corby was great in the right midfield, but over the last few seasons the midfield has been too crowded. Luke was definitely the best in the league and JD... going forward he looked magnificent but often did not look up and ran into dead ends. I know JD scored some fantastic goals but to me, he was a midfielder not a defender. I feel Will is the biggest loss.

Interesting in different people's perceptions. Our defence has not been good enough for the past two seasons. We concede too many easy goals thus putting pressure on the forwards to score more goals. Last season's great run was just a smokescreen for change that was needed. I think people have forgotten how poor we were in the early part of last season. The change of manager is almost irrelevant as the problem is still the same.

As you say, perceptions are interesting and I've seen this argument about the defence being poor before, statistically at least it doesn't hold true. Last season only Truro and Weston-super-Mare conceded less than we did and they both went up. We started appallingly too so our defence was possibly the best in the division from November/December onwards! Do we as fans project problems that aren't there but we assume they must be? Defenders at this level won't stop anything and everything and will make mistakes; that's ultimately why they play at this level.

I think you have just answered your own question. If you want promotion you need a solid defence. Yes Truro and Weston -Super-Mare were promoted partly due to having conceded the fewest goals and if you look at the present league table the top three teams that have conceded the fewest goals so far are Gosport 12, Salisbury 10, Chesham 14, compared to Poole 26. The Poole defence has been neglected for the past three seasons being botched up with players playing out of position and also to many young inexperienced players. If you look back to the promotion side of 2015/16 season only 35 goals were conceded in all league games including 25 clean sheets.

I am probably going to get a lot a stick for this but the problems in defence, clearly outlined above by Ballboy are exactly what I meant in my earlier post. Today we kept a clean sheet for the first time in yonks with a new back four. One result means nothing but after the poor start under both managers, it suggests we should not change a winning team. So whatever reason Whisken did not play, he should not start next game, club captain or not.
The prediction league forecasts for the match told the story. Only 2 of 28 entries forecast a clean sheet for Poole.

If Flashscore is correct, it wasn't a clean sheet today and I note that the Beaconsfield goal came - as expected - in the 90th minute! Apart from that, well played boys.

That's more like it a good result today. A good shake up in the defence has been long overdue and hopefully this new defensive setup can form the basis of a new solid Poole Town defence into the future.

My Mistake Flashscore had it at 0-3 at full time and must have corrected it. I could use the excuse that it was a new back four but I failed to check all reputsble sources.
The main points I made still stand though.

The main points I made still stand though. Your blinkered view of our captain clouds your judgement John. The man's a Colossus and has been since he joined us

i believe that was something like 10 seasons ago?
To all things there is a season a time to build up and a time to break down
PTFC are in that cycle right now. Painful as it is.
