Carl Chivers has joined Ham United with another of our old "favourites" Ryan Woolfenden. Not heard of anyone coming in thus far.

Come on guys, why is it so quiet? Loads of other wessex teams have announced a host of new signings! Any sign of activity at Poole?

Hear what you’re saying Dolphin, but it is only worth bringing in a level of quality that is going to improve the squad. Signing “hosts of players” just seems to indicate the summer Wessex Premier merry go-round is in full swing, with players simply moving club for a number of differing reasons. Looking to raise the bar, and bring in added quality to add to the nucleus already in place is the key - not more of the same simply to bulk numbers up. I’m sure Tom has his eye on 2 or 3 that would help take PTFC to a level which ensures they will be in the mix next year.

I see in tonights Echo that Steve Gilbert has joined Carl over the bridge at Ham ! I have heard that Alan Jordan has not signed yet,i hope that 2 or 3 that Tom has in mind are of the defensive persuasion tonyw.

Hi Tony, Yes I appreciate what you are saying, and we are lucky to have quality players at the club already.
However I cant agree that it is simply a merry go-round as some teams have made some very good signings already, Vospers are going to be a force to be reckoned with Neil Scammell and Jamie Musselwhite up front for them, Wimborne are bringing in decent players and even Poppies have made a good signing in Gareth Barnes to partner Leigh up front for them.
I just hope that we are not taking our eye off the ball here, Tommy seemed surprised that Steve Gilbert had joined Hamworthy, and the club then announced our 1st signing as Josh Thomas, saying what a quality player he was and it now appears that he hadnt signed for us after all and has now joined Wimborne.
We all appreciate the progress that has been made, but with our rivals strengthening, we must make sure that we bring in a few fresh faces in order to remain competitive.
On another note, why is it so quiet on the messageboard these days, lets get that buzz about Poole Town going again. Surely Im not the only one counting down the days till the start of the season!?

I see that Wimborne have also signed "Billy" Pearce & Stuart Langrish ! We are being left behind a bit here ,Tom is gonna struggle to sign anyone decent now to improve the squad, surely Karim & Browner are gonna serve a suspension early doors in the season & that will leave us woefully short of bodies!!!!!

With only one new signing what chance have we got of doing very well in the league this season,as all the better teams are signing a lot of good players. How did a player that signed for us has now gone to Wimborne.

very interesting reading all the messages about the incoming/outgoings at the "Town" over the past few weeks & yes we have all read in the local papers about all the other wessex teams signing players, some good quality or just plain journeymen who go from team to team for the extra money & have no hope of ever progressing up the non league tree but surely we at the Town only want players who will be loyal & want to progress with their playing days at a team who will in time be challenging at the top of the table as we were last season & again in time our future will be promotion out of the wessex league. yes the wessex league does seem to be a merry go round of players but i am sure that tommy & the rest of the team at the Town will have views on who they want to bring in to take us to the next level as as for the josh thomas fiasco just forget about it & let the team next season show the Wxxkxr that Poole will again be the top dogs in the wessex league in Dorset. It always seems strange when someone like christer warren who as i believe has no managerial experience shouts his mouth off before the season has started that crap like wimborne are the kings of the wessex league & should not even be there playing the likes of the rest of us!! we will see at the end of the season & as for Josh thomas he can enjoy playing for a second rate team - money grabber who obviously can show no loyalty to anyone let alone his mate Tommy!! Players will come & go & we will get quality players at the town so come on Boys dont get down before the season starts, be positive & look forward to the season ahead. would be good to have a few postings from Doug or is he still holed up in scotland? & come on Benito lets have a twenty page rant & rave from you!!! good luck to the loyal players who by playing for the town this coming season will take us to the next level, players who will be proud to play for the top team in the wessex, yes The Mighty Poole Town.

Afternoon Dolphin (earlier posting) / All, Wasn’t going to come on, but why not – join in. I think my earlier posting may have been misconstrued. I totally agree PTFC undoubtoubly need to strengthen for the forthcoming season. It’s just that my personal belief is that it is not worth bringing in players for the sake of appearing to be active in the market. Players of a standard that IMPROVE the squad are what’s required, and yes, of course we need such players. I just think the way forward is to where possible get off the merry-go-round”, and look beyond (easier said than done). I’m not saying for one moment all Wessex League players are “run of the mill” far from it, but it is well worth being selective (obviously) and objective with a view to stepping up a level. Some are a whole lot better than others; it is these you want to attract.
After finishing 4th last time out, we now need to push on and build a team to ensure that we actually beat teams we should i.e. virtually guarantee three points when expected, and as a minimum not lose to the other top 3 or 4 sides. Obvious stuff this, but it wins leagues ! We should also of course, be competing in the latter stages of all cup competitions entered. PTFC have the basis of a very good side, but we need to add to what we have by approx’ half a dozen QUALITY players to get near the above criteria.. This is easily said, but extremely difficult to achieve when you are trying to balance the books as well as the squad. Therefore. I guess realistically you are talking 2 or 3 team improving players hopefully coming in immediately. It seems we were let down of late regarding one perspective signing who seemed to fit into this category. But you cannot odds someone seemingly having a “change of heart”. Poole Town either gets into your blood and you want to play for this club, or you don’t – simple as that.
Generally speaking now (not about any one player who may, or may not have changed his mind) I have always said you look to sign a man as well as a player. Commitment, loyalty, training ethic, etc - how often will you find these attributes in the typical “merry–go-round type player?. These attributes often come with players who have experienced a higher level (and I don’t mean pass their sell by date, quite the opposite). They bring their experiences in with them allowing the club to grow, and again attain the levels previously reached. Asking a lot…too right and why not ! This is my whole point, and what we should be striving very hard to bring in. But again, this must be very, very difficult and easier said than done.
As for the ground issue raised recently. PTFC should send out a clear message they are one of the MOST ambitious clubs in this league. Landing some silverware this coming year is at the top of our agenda as much as any other club. However, plans for the future (ground perhaps) often take time to come to fruition. Any player with ambition should want to play at the highest level possible, and obstacles to that can be a concern but sometimes you have to see the bigger picture, the way forward and also show loyalty to the cause. However, this must be a 2-way street with the club matching players ambitious. Please let’s not budget in the short term for a team that “won’t get promoted anyway” because of Tatnam, but we plan to invest when we have a serious chance of going up (ground wise). Let’s win the thing NOW. Incidentally, what’s ironic about those recent comments in the press is that in my opinion Poole have the best actual PLAYING suface in the league. Level, grassed and plays true. So often we see cow fields with a fence of sorts around them qualifying as a “stadium “. A player should view his home pitch as part of his kit as much as anything in his bag. So perspective PTFC signings have a think about playing on a decent pitch every other week.
Back to next year. To improve on 4th and continue the progress of the last 2 years we need to strengthen the squad without a doubt. Monsieur Henry looked around him at the Emirates and saw a recently great team falling behind (did he also see 130K a week on offer in Spain who knows ??). PTFC should not fall into the same trap – we do need to add to the existing strong base, but only with the required quality…….not an easy task. Roll on next season, Tony W.
