Now we are to finally get our new ground would it be possible to remove from the old stadium the plaque which still sits above the old turnstiles and replace it somewhere in the new building. I assune we would need council permission but I think it would be a fitting tribute to all older supporters to have the plaque visable once again to football supporters young and old. If somebody has the time somewhere on this message board there is a picture taken by Cliff (M3 Dolphin) of the plaque hopefully we could get the picture back on here (JohnA?)

It is quite hard to find old posts especially as Cliff has changed his nickname a few times. I'll see what I can do but it might be easier if Cliff reposted.

Yes the post was a couple of years ago and the pictures have been deleted. Either Cliff could re-post or we could ask Steve47 to take a picture as he is a Pirates fan.

I most certainly can take a photo of the plaque but realistically I wonder if there is any chance we could have it for Bearwood?

Unfortunately when I moved I cleared my PC. Think it's a brilliant idea of Benito's to look at moving the plaque. You can only ask. Maybe start with any supporters' clubs who are connected with the present sports associated with the stadium, they would understand the reason I would have thought.

Would a replica do?
|
|
|
Post by benito on Apr 17, 2011 19:36:35 GMT
No a replica would not do! The plague states that the men of Poole gave their time freely to build the stadium/grandstand for the football club. History can not be replicated! If the powers to be say no then no it is. I like expat would happily chip in to get this valuable piece of PTFC history back. After all the supporters built the stadium for the football and we got kicked out now the only people getting enjoyment from the stadium are the speedway and the dogs, how could they object.

I actually meant a replica left for the stadium.

Thanks Steve Top Man, as expat said it would be nice to have a 'tiny' bit of our past in the present.

This is the Plaque on the Stand at the Stadium. Not only is the plaque part of Poole Town's history so is the stand itself which was erected by the Football Club. Attachments:

That plague honours the hard work of fans of Poole Town Football Club
Like the present fans that helped turn Tatnum around in 3 weeks.
It shows the past and should be in our future at Bearwood.
Whatever it takes do it.

Should we be looking to put it up at Tatnam or storing it until Bearwood is built?

Nice gesture expat and a nice quotation too! Who said that? The real quotation is "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" from George Santayana. Don't you just love Wikipedia?

I am having difficulty finding an email address for stadiauk and was going to persue it via other means but you have beaten me to it - well done. All that matters is that the plaque will live on with us at Bearwood...

Seems to have gone awfully quiet regarding 'THE PLAQUE' do I assume that dolphin47 and Parky had no luck? if so how about somebody else getting involved? BOD member perhaps, Cd speaks very well! (when he's not annoying Wingebourne that is) As we seem to be on friendly terms with the council at the mo, maybe Councillor Eades could help out. Or do we just FORGET our history?? is anybody else bothered or am I barking up the preverbal wrong tree.

I have brought this up with the BOD, however I think this something that's on the 'To do list' but not a priority, understandably so, priority is to get Tatnam up to standard for the SPL

looking at Last remarks on this thread I have to repent! i was absolutely wrong! But as someone mentioned elsewhere who could have forseen the incredible home run that has taken us to a point away from the playoffs? The Team deserve what they have fought so hard for. However I did get a twinge of the old radical when I read the Echo and the news that the Wimborne Rd speedway track was looking superb! Does it sound like they are ready to move? Bumper crowd too! With the greyhounds gone to the great kennels in the sky isn't it time to look again at the location capable of catering to larger crowds and bigger events in a prime location. Not saying that radical surgery isn't necessary. After twenty odd years does anyone have any other feasible suggestions?
