Although there is a thread on Ground Grading on the main forum, I thought it would be a good idea to explain it in more detail here. Tatnam is currently a Grade E ground. This grade or higher is needed for promotion from Step 5 (Wessex Prem) to Step 4 Southern League Div 1 S&W.
So we have a Grade E for Tatnam but Grade E is an interim standard. Grade D must be achieved by a promoted club by 31st March in the year following promotion. So we have a deadline of 31st March 2012. This is just over four months away.
So what is the difference? A paraphrase of wording of the Grade D document is shown below
In addition to hard standing, development must be on more than one side of the ground.
Covered accommodation, which should preferably be on 2 sides of the ground.
Minimum covered accommodation must be 300, of which at least 150 must be seated.
So we need covered accommodation on either the school side of the ground (unlikely) or at one end. We already have 152 seats so that requirement is met.
At this stage, any expenditure should be transferable to Bearwood and this means a more expensive (short term that is) structure. Clearly the a simple covered terrace (stepped or not) similar to the away stand planned for Bearwood would suffice. However the next step to Step 3 and Ground Grading C would require more seats and it may be more cost effective in the long term to build a seated stand or another mixed stand as we have at present.
I am sure the BoD are looking at this carefully and will make the right choice but in the mean time we need to help them raise the money.
So four months to save the money? No because it has to be complete in 18 weeks. I don't know about you but I don't want to be playing at Hamworthy next year unless it is in the DSC.
